After a long and rainy spring, summer has finally begun in Northeast Ohio! Since these next few months are the most beautiful time of year on the North Coast, we thought it was only fitting to share a vacation cottage remodel in Catawba designed for relaxation and some fun in the sun.  Can you believe this before and after photo is the same home?

While the cottage was located in close proximity to many summertime amenities, the existing structure had a choppy floor plan and was missing the architectural charm typical to Catawba. The owner reached out to Schill Architecture to turn a ho-hum cottage into their dream summer retreat! Because the beautiful vistas of Lake Erie are offered from the front of the site instead of the rear, the Schill Architecture team chose to expand the footprint off the front of the home to gain a larger interior living area for hosting friends and family as well as a more spacious master suite. Large, new windows, bright white trim and rich navy blue shake siding totally transform the exterior into the nautical retreat the owner’s were looking for. Our favorite “room” in this house is the outdoor living space that stretches across the front of the home – it doubles as an inviting entry point and the perfect spot to relax and look out at the water. There is nothing like summer on the North Coast!
